About

All of my gourd designs are hand crafted with love and reverence to honor and rejoice all of the cycles of life!

I have been making my gourd designs for 4 years. I can honestly say that gourds found me, not the other way around! And since then, I can’t seem to get them out of my system! I find it peaceful and satisfying to use a medium that comes directly from the earth. It is also challenging to use pre-existing forms and shapes that limit yet inspire my final designs.

The initial ¡Gourditas! collection consisted of masks inspired by Día de los Muertos. These masks are my unique interpretations of the traditional calacas created in Mexico for this yearly celebration. I still continue to make the calacas designs, but my newest works include other spiritual inspirations that are sure to charm and delight!

These one of a kind designs are made using organically grown hard-shell gourds. I use various combinations of techniques and mediums including woodburing, leather dye, acrylic paint, colored pencils and graphite pencils. The various embellishments include regional Mexican paper flowers, crystal gemstones, pods, sticks, yarn, coral and other unique findings.
